Woo hoo!
I heard one broke quick over Sedona yesterday. I hope the West Fork gang is doing well

A little kind word to all the new comers. Monsoon is a season not a specific thunderstorm. I remember feeling as intelligent as pocket lint being corrected on this in the past

has the season started?

I know the West Fork folks would be enjoying it now if they get a bit of this storm.

Presently, time on deck at the time of this writing is 1756 (5:56 P.M.). The first dispatch was quick, now the update. SWEET! The wind is gusting, the storm seems to be tapering, rain was not a large amount; however, the smell and feel is awesome. The sound of thunder in the distance is pleasant to ear. Clouds above, the temperature must have dropped at least 10 degrees. Cannot beat it.

I do not know if I could classify this a true monsoon storm, nor can I say the season started. I have not been paying attention to the weather on the news about the dew point. Which I believe has to be at least above 50% for three straight days. Has all the characteristics of one though, and as my mom always told me, "don't ever look a gift horse in the mouth".

don't want to jinx it, but looking at the radar and looking out the window here in mesa, we may have a storm coming from the north east.

This will be my first monsoon season/storm. (or whatever is politically correct in refering to the rainy season here)

I don't know exactly what to expect, but I love the way you all are giving me the updates.
I've been through tornados, hurricane type winds, but flash flooding and dust storms whew weee.
I'll stay tuned!

From here and the online radar it looks as tho Cordes Jct/camp verde are getting it pretty good. As usual Prescott is surrounded on three sides by the storm.....still stars over head right now....

It has been going on for about 4 hours now....

Four of us went to West Clear Creek today. As we were swimming and napping around 1pm the air changed and the breeze picked up. We watched the sky critically and decided to give up on our full moon hike and go home. The big storm came in just as we left and it seems to have followed us down to Tempe. It is raining here currently at 108 degrees F.

sherileeaz, in my opinion, the monsoon season, usally between June and September, is the most awesome weather event in Arizona. Well, actually, any wet weather event in Arizona is awesome,

but nothen like a monsoon. Short, violent, nasty fast moving little storms, which form in the afternoon's, the heat of of the day, it offers a brief respite of cooling down the day. The threat though is high winds, micro-brusts, lightning, flash floods, and dust storm which can and has created holy havoc in the Valley of the Sun. I remember as a kid growing up in Phoenix, running around in the summer attire, just cut-off jeans, and in the late afternoon seeing a massive wall of dust rising in the sky as high as you can see, fifty miles away, bearing down on us from the east, an awesome sight, yet one that held the promise of rain following.

Sunday, the morning after. Nice, the smell of damp earth, cool, and again the feeling of life.

I love the storms up here in Prescott. I live out in the forest and to watch a thunderstorm march towards you with a wall of lightning and thunder and pouring rain is the best!! I get pounded by lightning around here, it will definately make your hair stand up.......in more ways than one.....We almost got it yesterday, it stayed just a few miles away..........maybe today!!! I am a little concerned tho, I just recently discovered an underground spring..............UNDER my house!! And it decided to well up one day last week and flooded my bedroom......was calculating around 2 gallons an hour at its peak.......anybody want spring water??

It used to emerge about 100 yards down the road.....seems to be picking on me now....

Being an X Air-force meteorologist, I wait impatiently each year for the monsoon season. The last couple of years have been somewhat dissapointing. Lots of dust, little rain.

I love storms. I realize that may sound odd to some, but for me it's almost like built up tension that after the storm is released. As best that I can explain it. The anticipation, excitement, the the storm hits then the calm and refreshed feeling.

It's ironic but in Indiana where I just moved from, they've had nothing but rain, storms and flooding. I like that Arizona has a "season" and that's all. I love counting on the 360 days of sunshine and gorgeous weather that is 90 or below but also love the storms the other times to add a bit of excitement and change.

I was in Sedona today, the storms came through and we got a bit of rain on the drive home, won't have to wash my car!!

Like I said, brings a calm and refreshed feeling, I don't have to wash it now! ;)

Just my luck, I get my car washed on Saturday and sure enough that night we get our first rain! Actually, it was the most welcome sight I'd seen in months. I don't know how the rest of the valley did, but Ahwatukee got a nice pelting for about an hour along with the wind and haboo that equal monsoon season. Hopefully we get some more this week. :GB:

As i was leaving Tombstone early yesterday evening when the storm rolled in.
It was the most beautiful/amazing thing i have seen in a while...well since last year's monsoon season.

Wickenburg got it about 2:00 this a.m. I watched and listened from my patio. Thunder was one continuous rumble. I got just under 1/8th inch of rain.

You guys are lucky, you've seen rain. I sure hope my kids get to see rain.

Not much at all yet this summer here in 'tukee. I stopped at a rest stop on I-10 on the way back from Las Cruces one day a couple summers ago and watched a thunderstorm just pulverize the east face of the Chiricahua's. It was awesom, saw one bolt hit the ground and jump out of the ground and back in some distance away. Sure wish it would get going here.

Ya that weatherman lied!!!!

I ran up the mountain and waited an hour. Watched a "medium" head crawl over the Four Peaks to the Superstition Ridgeline. Then it pushed back. The valley just couldn't crank up enough heat with all the cloud coverage today... I guess that is
