So, I might be going to DV end of the month and scoping out a few places off the radar; but perused the gov website and what did I see--
"The area known as Jail Canyon in Death Valley National Park is closed to all public access immediately. This closure is enacted due to the presence of an illegal marijuana grow site in operation. These sites and associated criminal activities present a risk to public safety. This closure pertains to all areas of the canyon beyond the mouth of Jail Canyon and below the canyon rim.
This closure does not apply to:
Authorized NPS employees/ law enforcement officers.
Those approved in advance by the Superintendent or designee."
This is part of what was posted in 2021 and apparently still in effect. Or until the employees harvest what they want. That area is really neat.

I am not familiar with Jail Canyon but now see that its higher upper end is NNW of the Telescope Peak area. In the past, have you hiked into this canyon, and do you have an old HAZ triplog/photoset posted?

Re: Death Valley Dope
I saw that image during my planning last December but I don’t remember it saying specifically where.
Makes me wonder when/if/how they’ll be able to stop the operation. I’m sure it isn’t that easy otherwise they would have already.

@PatrickL
Maybe they have but have not updated their website. I have noticed that a lot of government agencies have really old stuff on there that they never bother to change. I don't think the employees even look at some of those websites half the time.

@Grasshopper
[ photoset ] ; I think about end of page 3 starts the section on Jail canyon where I used it as a backpack to an overlook of Hall canyon.
