Rim to Rim

Post by Dschur »

I was just wondering how many people will be doing Rim to Rim or more in the next few weeks. My husband will be Oct 3 and then Oct 5. Since this is the time of the year that it is starting to get cooler in the canyon and the Fall colors should be excellent on the North rim....

I'm with a group planning it for the weekend of the 17th. That is if I get over whatever bug is dragging me down lately.

I'll be going the weekend of 10/10. This will be a first time for me, all the way to the other side...looking forward to it.

rim to rim

Post by Dschur »

Well my husband just got back from his rim to rim. And did it in his best time from south to north in 8 hrs and 8 minutes in the Rain... It rained most of the day on Friday the 3rd. And was at least cooler since earlier in the week they were recording 120 degrees in the sun at the bottom. And then on the return trip Sunday it was nice and he did his best at 7hrs and 55 minutes. The fall colors on the north rim were awesome and the weather was nice too. We spent the whole day on Saturday just running around and taking pictures. The wild turkeys were out. And many of the other animals too... We are booked for the north rim lodge again for next spring...

Rim to Rim Planning

Post by dgroat »

I am planning a rim to rim day hike this spring? Any advice? Is May 1st going to be too hot? Trail runners or light boots? A good place to stay near the North Rim?

In response to dgroat's reply: The North rim isn't open to the rim until the 15th or so of the month of May. There is only one campground up there and the lodge. You have to get about 15 miles from north rim before you are in the national forest and can camp there anywhere. It normally isn't too hot by the 15th of May but if you plan to hike it early then you can be out of the bottom when it is the hottest.
