Curse ye, weather!

Post by PaleoRob »

Augh! Planed a car-camping trip for the Escalante region this weekend. Canyons, including slots...and this massive storm rolls in. Canceled trip due to heavy flash flood danger and 80% chance of heavy storms. Will I never get to explore this region like I want? This is the second time in a row that a trip up there has been called off for various reasons...

Sorry, needed to vent.

This rain has been something this season. It's been interesting, here in Phoenix we haven't had the big monsters rising up in the afternoons for the most part, with the walls of dust and monster storms. They're coming later at night, or even in the middle of the night.

I was amazed by the sheet lightning bouncing off the sky from every direction on Thursday nite. I don't recall seeing anything quite like it; and I've been here since 1981. And that combined with the continuous rolling thunder and to get three surges in a row was quite a lot for one nite. :scared: I've heard many people comment about the sheet lighting... it's like the monsoon's version of shock and awe. :o
It's also interesting to read here how many times people who are out hiking are trying to beat the weather but get caught so many times....
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

It has been a dry dry dry monsoon up here in Page. Hardly any storms nearby, and maybe only two that have actually hit the town. Would be nice if we did get some precip out of this, but despite the weather report and flash flood warning for the area, nary a drop here. Escalante looks like it is getting slammed though.

Around 10:30 the thunder started, and by 11:30 it was dumping. Rained all night, and looks like more is on the way. Rather be inside my house than in a slot canyon in this weather! Still...I want to get up there and explore...
