These very nice people, a husband and wife, both pilots, both asking me for just a small adventure yesterday morning, as the lightning was striking all the ridges around the ranch and the thunder was close and loud. To avoid the ridges we stayed low; we went up Strawberry Canyon (not on the map--the ranch is on Whiting Knoll 7.5'). Anyway, of course they were marveling at having to wear jackets, and they had had a fire in their cabin's fireplace the previous evening. They said no one in the Valley was going to believe them. Then I showed them the aspen trees, whose leaves were beginning to turn yellow...
This morning I turned on the heat in the house. Of course, part of the reason it's so cool is because of the cloud cover and all the rain over the past week. Everything is greening up again.
I am looking forward to that part of early fall which is dry and great for hiking and mtn. biking. The Tour of the White Mtns. bike race is coming up, maybe I'll ride in it again this year. There is a two track ride I've been itching to do, starting at G&F White Mountains Grasslands and heading toward Green's Peak. Anyone who wants to ride about 20 miles or so of two-track, likely seeing no one else, let me know. Getting a day off from work would be helpful, though. I haven't had many lately, having 3 jobs.
