Davis is having a garage sale!!

Post by rdavisiii »

I have been going through my garage and totes and have found several items I like to part ways with:

Tarptent Virga: $100.00 obo This item is new and has only been setup in my yard to seam seal it. It has the sewn in floor.

La Sportiva K2 boots, size 9: $50.00 obo These are lightly used. I had bought them with the intention of using these instead of my plastic boots but ended up liking my plastics more then these on steep grade 4-5 ice so I stuck with my plastics. These are a rugged boot that can accept step in crampons.

SOLD MSR Wisperlight stove: $20.00 obo Includes two refillable fuel bottles.

I also have quite abit of technical climbing gear. I am looking to sell Cams, Tri Cams, Nuts, and Hexes. I have owned all this gear since it was new and if I where to climb again I would not think twice about using this gear to protect a route I am leading. Only ever had one leader fall on trad gear and that hex is still up on that cliff :D

Willing to trade as well, if someone out there has a Dana Designs Terraplane let me know.

Ron

Are you aware that Dana Gleason is back designing and manufacturing packs as Mystery Ranch? I don't know enough about how that Terraplane compares to the new generation. Mystery Ranch is in competition to design the next generaion of Marine Corps packs to replace the current Arc'teryx design. Not necessarily ultralight but definitely ultra sturdy.

Yep, I have been eyeballing a MR pack for some time now. The MR and the DD packs are almost twins. The pack I have now is ok but I find when I get above 25 pounds the pack just does not cut it and whenever I go out I am at ~20 pounds for short trips and ~30 for longer, never mind carrying extra water which seems to be a pass time out here :(

I used to have a Terraplane X that I hauled ropes and other climbing gear in and that pack felt better at 50 pounds then my Wild Things pack does at 25 pounds. I have been lightning the load up for backpacking and find what I go with now I am very happy with(although a Blackbird hammock is in my future). My pack is starting to show wear and I imagine I will be replacing it within the year. I intend to get a MR Trance XXX with a lid(extra). That pack will weigh in about 6 pounds but will have a slimmed down version of the suspension that his large haul packs have. They rate that pack at 30-50 pounds, the others are 50-80 pounds. It would be a bonus if I could come across a DD pack, just a nice thing to have. It seems odd when I am shaving weight from everything and then add a bunch back with a pack but I have found saving weight on the pack itself can really suck if you end up with a heavier load and I am not committed to Ultralight, I like some creature comforts. Ray Jardine has some great ideas but that is just not for me.

$ for $ and # for # I am happy with my Granite Gear Nimbus Ozone (I think it is) up to about 30-34lbs. When & If it wears out. I would trade my Osprey Aether 70 for that MR Trance XXX. I have this Osprey for carrying the extra water for GC hike caching. It's ok at about 50lbs.
I apologize for hijacking your Thread. Hope we can get you back to the Garage Sale topic.

Those are good prices for that equipment. I'm just squared away on tent, boots and stove right now. My wife would kill me if I brought climbing gear home :(

No worries Al, Thanks for the info on the packs, I had been looking at Granite Gear packs as well. This is stuff that has been sitting on the bench and will never get a start on my team again so I price it to move.
