Climbing in West Clear Creek

Post by RickVincent »

Any fun climbing routes in WCC over deep water? I've seen mention of Anti-Crag and others. Not sure exactly where in WCC these walls are. Would love to grab the climbing shoes and play around with some "deep water" free soloing this weekend. Not that WCC is all that deep. What is the best TH for approach. Willow Valley, Maxwell, Tramway....
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

I don't know about WCC, but ECC past Winslow Wall has some good stuff. Water gets pretty deep in some spots too, great for cliff jumping! You can do the approach either via the trail, which has a rope for rappel all ready, or via kayak from the reservoir. Sweet area!

Yes, I've heard of the deep water routes in ECC. Saw a great photoset of you and hikergirl out there. Haven't been out there yet myself, and would love to give it a try. Maybe after the monsoon settles down. I've been aching for a return to WCC; one of my favorite places. Killer profile pic btw.

Thanks! Love that hat.. Fletcher is the only place I've been able to wear it so far. :D

I'd definitely be curious to know if you find any good DWS down WCC.. so far I've only seen regular old climbing there though..

Well, I definitely plan on going there to find out. Going to make a weekend out of it. Step one: find deep pools. Step two: see if I can climb out of them. Step three: Jump! I will report my findings.

An awful lot of rain up there this weekend, and I was without 4wd. So, plans changed. Decided against any trips that might lead me down slippery muddy forest service roads. Ended up hiking Clover Creek and Fossil Creek which allowed easier access for my 2wd van. My search for DWS in WCC will have to wait until another day.
