Best Sedona area hike

Post by JasonCleghorn »

with lowest ratio of AEG/difficulty to scenic view ratio.

Round 2 with family in a couple weekends and want to try out Sedona and maximize views with least AEG, etc...

Devil's Bridge, Fay Canyon Arch, West Fork of Oak Creek, Red Rock Crossing....Start with those, but keep in mind, the Best Easy Sedona Hike will also be the most Popular, so forget about Solitude....

I just did Devils Bridge a few months ago. Pretty easy hike, but very crowded. Personally I would do something at Red Rock Crossing.

Once you hopped across the creek, the crowds didn't seem as bad as they are at Devil's Bridge.

Most popular hike in Sedona is the price hike.

I'm surprised Boynton Canyon hasn't been mentioned canyon views and ruins. Palatki and Honanki ruins trails are also easy and interesting as well.

+1 for Boynton Canyon (because that's the only hike I've ever done in Sedona... :) )

Hey I am looking to take my brother and Rowdy hiking in Sedona this Saturday. I have never hiked there before so I would like to find a nice hike around 10 miles or so with some nice views. My brother is in early stages of dementia and well Rowdy is Rowdy. So I just want to have a good time with my brother and take him where we can enjoy the views and still be safe.

It's too hot for over a couple hours hiking in the current forecast temps. The following are probably your best options. However, I wouldn't recommend anything between 9am-4pm.
Boynton Canyon Trail #47
West Fork Oak Creek Trail #108

@joe bartels
Just wondering why not between 9am and 4pm? I am looking at doing the West Fork Oak Trail# 108. I really think Rowdy will love it.

You asked about a 10 mile hike. That is too much in the middle of the day near 100 degree temps in direct sunlight... potentially deadly.

West Fork Oak Trail #108 is your best choice for the Sedona area. 4-6 miles, lots of shade options, cool running water for your dog to walk in.

@joe bartels Sorry my question was just for the West Fork Trail. With all the shade and water Rowdy should have a great time. Just so you know when I hike Rowdy is always number. Rowdy wants to hike everyday and I take plenty of water for him. And I have been reading up on his breed of dog and they handle heat well, but I always keep my eye on him. He is a big part of my family and he knows it.
