Microwave tower on Hawes trail

I am trying to find out if anyone has information about the peak just north of the microwave tower. It looks like there is a flag waving on top of the peak. Does anyone know anything about it or how you can get to it? Thanks

The flag is on Peak 2959, about 500' south of the summit of Peak 2972. While I'm sure it's possible to find a route up from the west side (Hawes Trail area) following the Official Route for this hike is probably the better option:

I have no solid information as to why the flag is there or what it signifies, I'd lean toward the flag being left to honor a veteran or the like.

But then it's very possible it was left for no other reason than 'because it would be cool' to place a flag there. (where it will be left to the effects of weather and end up being just more trash)

Although I've glanced over to the flag on all my trips to Usery Mountain I've never been curious enough to take the side trip to see it up close.
