6th Annual New Year's Day Hike

6th Annual New Year's Day Hike! Thought I would go ahead and give you a Head's Up that I am still doing it this Time around. Unlike Past Years however, I will not be selecting our Destination until probably just before Christmas. But I can tell you that it will probably be the Easiest Peak Bag yet for this Event and most likely it will also have a Trail. Scrambling for me is most likely not an Option this Year. Although I always try to pick something that most can do, the Peak we do will be more heavily based on what I will be able to do this Year. I am leaning towards being out beyond the NW Side of Town this Year, but no Promises there either. But know that the Criteria for being just a Tad out of Town is still in Place. I hope you decide to join me to Ring in the New Year even if it's an Easier Hike than Normal.... :D

Start Time 9:00 A.M.
Parking: State Route 88 (Apache Trail). Go 4.1 Miles past the Creek Crossing at Tortilla Flat to FR 80 (Dirt Road on Left) It will not have a Standard FR Marker, but a Faded Wood Post that just says 80 on it. There is also Construction Signage at the Intersection. (If you hit the Dirt Section of the Apache Trail, you've gone too far.) Turn Left onto 80 and go about 100 Yards to FR 3507 on your Right. Turn Right. The Road will Fork, with a short Road going down into the Drainage. Stay Straight on the Main Road and you will enter a large Clearing with several Flat Fire Circles. Lots of Parking here, but stay away from the Fire Pits as there have been Pallets Burned there, lots of Nails. Unless you have a extreme Low Rider Vehicle, you will have no Problems with getting to the Parking Area.

Have fun! I originally planned to be in Phoenix around then, but decided to visit my folks instead.

Based on how PT is going, I've made a Decision on our Destination. Last Year it was slightly SE, this Year it will be slightly NE... Coronado Mesa... You can click on the Link at the Top.... It's a pretty safe Decision for me, but it gives you all Time to think about it. Although this may be an "Easy" Hike, it is Off-Trail and I think for those of you that may not find it much of a Challenge, the Views will certainly make the Trip worth it for you. This has been on my List To Do for over 5 Years and this is a Great Time to do it! This will be an Amazing Place to Kick in a New Year with a little Party, don't you think??? :y: If anyone objects to Dogs coming along, please Message me privately and I'll make that Decision soon... :) I've not allowed them on Previous Events, but I'm Open to the Possibility this Year depending on what others in the Event think....

It's going very well...Just not as fast as I would like. I probably won't be getting a Decent Hike in until just before Christmas (uneven Terrain, Rocky, with some Mileage) so I'm playing it fairly safe for New Year's....Don't want to Blow it now by taking on too much too soon, I'm just 3 weeks out of Surgery now....

Pam: It sounds fun, but I have to work that day. So, think of me, ringing in the New Year at the base of Hoover Dam, launching Boy Scouts in canoes. Yes, I get paid to do that. Yes, it's a fun kind of pain in the butt.

As with everything about me, my commitment is tentative. I like the idea, though, and have never been out there.

I am going to switch from interested to committed. Tentatively. Maybe. Possibly. Looks like a fun little peak!

I was considering but then realized it was on a Sunday... ](*,)
The last time I hiked on a Sunday was when I nearly croaked in Fish Creek Canyon. :scared:
