Shortly after entering the old Leroux Fire scar where it did burn hot down low. When it got up into the bristlecones, it burned more like it would have over a century ago, unlike the Pipeline and Schultz which were stand replacing. Anyway, after 23 years, ponderosa pine is forming future doghair thickets, as seen with the regenration on the right in the distance. It's dense. A similar situation is happening in the areas thinned in 2008 on the lower Snowbowl Rd slopes, and US 89 just south of Flagstaff. Fire is needed, otherwise, it isn't a restoration, it is just a seed tree or shelterwood cutting.
