Encountering the Batona Trail, or "BAck TO NAture" trail. That kinda shows you how NJ people view things. So urban and removed from anything not asphalt, they see a forest as separate from humanity, and being in it as back to nature, not realizing that the forest they walk in is so heavily altered by humans for over 300 years that it is far from a natural state. More like 1000s of years if you consider pre-European man's management of the forest. At the very least, having a century of no fire is a pretty extreme human alteration, and not at all natural.
