After failing to lug an elephant up Mount Lemmon, I decided to "pull" water from a spring and mock the peasants like the cool backpackers.
Months ago, I apparently threw away my MSR MiniWorks, thinking I'd never use it again, going unused for eons. Contemplated using my old Sawyer, but only if I had a backup.
Fed a landslide of information to AI. What interested me, of all things, was a Grayl Geopress Titanium. I have four pieces of backpacking equipment that I love. Granted, outdated, the Jetboil was worth every penny, even though the click igniter malfunctioned over a decade ago; it still works great. I figured this could double as a water pump and half of the Jetboil.
Amazon wanted me to wait eons over two days. Scheel's website, pick it up in an hour... rather than sign up for anything, I figured I'd just go buy it. I've been to Disney World but that was my first foray to Scheels.
Holy crap they were busy like it was an '80s weekend at a mall, but this was on a Tuesday morning. I couldn't find it quickly as expected, so I downloaded their app, thinking it might have a store map. (Real men do not ask for help...lol)
That didn't help other than saying it was in stock like the website. Found the label on the shelf... nope, just the smaller ones. All right, just need to get out of this place without finding something I unknowingly desperately need.
One, maybe two aisles away, shelves of blood clot merchandise caught my eye. YGTBKM... I didn't see any cameras or Allen Funt. Still slightly spooked, I managed to exit the store without encountering an old man wearing a sharp-cornered orange hoodie.
The next morning, I ordered it through their app for pickup since it said it was available. 25 minutes later, we're sorry...
Ended up with a Katadyn Hiker Pro through Amazon. Keeping the spirit of the ordeal, it was "misplaced" as they say, and other joys.
It's probably safe to drink from this fire hydrant, but future preparation oughta be easier.
