I just realized these pics at the lodge should go with the Running Eagle trip report (http://hikearizona.com/photoset.php?ID=16584).
We had to retreat inside the Lodge as the rain was coming down pretty good now. But what a horrible (NOT) place to have to retreat. I hadn't been inside here in many, many years.
From the glacierparkinc.com website: The section of the Lodge containing the lobby and dining room was erected in 1912-1913 and opened to guests on June 15, 1913. The opening was a very joyful event. Hundreds of Blackfeet Indians erected their teepees on the grounds and some 600 invited guests attended the celebration.
Some tribal members had never been beyond the boundaries of the government reservation and they never ceased to wonder at the seemingly unlimited powers the “Great Spirit” had bestowed on the white man as the massive lodge took shape. The Blackfeet promptly named the new lodge “Omahkoyis” or “Big Tree Lodge".
