after finishing our time at the Ross Creek Giant Cedar Grove we came back on the 56 to Highway 2. This is the little town of Troy, population 938. By the way, it's not easy saying Troy Trojans... Troy is 12 miles from the ID border and 18 miles from Libby).
Though surrounded by towering mountains, Troy boasts of being the town with the lowest elevation in the State of Montana at just 1880 ft. above sea level.
The rugged mountains near Troy include those of the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness area. Logging and the wood products industry were once the dominant industry and major employers of Troy's residents. Today, many of those who live in Troy work at the Troy copper and silver mine, Troy Public Schools, or the U.S. Forest Service.
