Evidence of historical ranching activity. This post appeared to be a corner post in an L shaped row of posts where most of the barbed wire had been removed. The posts were about 7 ft high, unusual for a cattle fence. Sometimes corrals will have fences that tall. However I could find no evidence that the L shaped row had originally been part of a rectangular enclosure. If so, it would have been quite large for a corral. Another possible function of such an enclosure would have been a high fence to keep deer and elk out of a protected area, like maybe a garden or crop, but I saw no other sign of homestead activity and irrigation water would have been a problem.
