This campsite near Jones Beach is one of the e-Camps along the trail for back packers. The hosts told me the e-camps were someone's idea of a way to make it easier for people to continue backpacking as they get older (like me). The camps are located at fairly short intervals (5 miles or less) and are equipped with tables, a fire ring and an outhouse. The camps between Jones Beach and Bear Harbor were being maintained by the current camp host, George, and had clean outhouses with fresh toilet paper. I'm not sure if hosts during other months of the year keep them maintained as well. A $20 per night fee is charged and collected at the Needle Rock Visitor's Center.
