A longer view featuring not only peaks in McDowell, but surrounding peaks. The geological history seems to feature a spreading of the crust in central Arizona, during which some slices fell and other rose. The mountains reside on slices that rose, or at least didn't slide down relative to neighboring pieces of crust.
