When I saw this I was thinking my eyes were playing tricks, what butterfly has 3, possibly 4 wings. It turns out each wing has two parts that normally overlap slightly and gives the appearance of just one wing on each side. This one was probably old and the parts just don't fit together as they use to. I told him that I can totally relate to that.
