We are above the Power House looking onto the Flathead River. I love the geology in the middle right of the picture. I will zoom and you can see photo later in the set (pic 28).

The Flathead River is a large river. Draining a sizeable portion of Northwest Montana, including parts of Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, the waters of the Flathead River flow swiftly through some of the most beautiful scenery Montana offers.

Below Kerr Dam, the Flathead River flows through a canyon. The first seven miles below the canyon are called “Buffalo Rapids.” Depending on current stream flows, several class IV rapids with sizeable waves and holes exist.

Flathead River is over 158 miles long, from it’s northern most point to where it meets the Clark Fork River northwest of Missoula, MT.
The Flathead River flows through Flathead Lake which is over 28 miles long.
The Middle Fork of the Flathead River inspired the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. Currently all three forks of the Flathead River have designation under this act with 97.9 miles of designated Wild river, 40.7 Scenic, and 80.4 Recreational.
