The only catclaw on the hike is at the bottom along the edges of Hewitt Canyon wash. Aside from cactus, Wolfberry Desert Hackberry was the only flora to avoid. My only hand of good use got stabbed by one of the not-so-visible thorns while steadying my balance. It was an odd situation where I had figure out a safe move before freeing my hand... lol
