I also liked the clouds. According to Geocache, Pinnacle Peak is “largely composed of granite. The crystallization of slowly cooling molten rock deep in the Earth formed this granite over 1.4 billion years ago. The natural forces of faulting, erosion, and uplifting of overlaying rocks have uncovered this granite.

more on granite: https://geologyscience.com/rocks/granite/ Granite is a widely distributed rock that can be found on all continents of the world. It is typically associated with areas of high tectonic activity, such as mountain ranges and volcanic regions. It always consists of the minerals quartz and feldspar, with or without a wide variety of other minerals (accessory minerals). The quartz and feldspar generally give granite a light color, ranging from pinkish to white. That light background color is punctuated by the darker accessory minerals. Almost all these rocks are igneous (it solidified from a magma) and plutonic (it did so in a large, deeply buried body or pluton).

AND to make it a touch more complicated: The random arrangement of grains in granite— its lack of fabric—is evidence of its plutonic origin. Rock with the same composition as granite can form through long and intense metamorphism of sedimentary rocks. But that kind of rock has a strong fabric and is usually called granite gneiss. REALLY, they had to say GRANITE Gneiss, couldn't they just leave it at GNEISS?
