In the original, you can see a lot of protectors. No idea on the survival rate 1 year post planting. Likely, it is low due to the west face and high wind exposure here. Maybe as low as 10% living, based on the ridges. However, if you look closely, there are highly browsed trees out there, too. So, while a forest is very, very slowly returning, anything that pops up over the protectors will be browsed.
