"Negatively" managed pitch pine. It is very dense, and the tree crowns are small with poor growth. No active positive management actions, only fire exclusion since a large fire swept through (likely origin of the stand) in 1963 and then fire exclusion since. This was after about 300 years of high grading earlier pitch or mixed shortleaf-pitch stands and both excessive fire frequency at a bad time in stand development, and then fire suppression. This area is very close to the defunct NJ Central RR line that I have read started many fires along it's course through the pinelands. I think it ended service in the 1950s.
