at the Luftee Overlook pullout on Newfound Gap Road. This is looking away from the actual Luftee Gap Overlook (an observation point on Deep Creek and Road Prong). Lots of pretty trees. FYI The name Luftee comes from the word Oconaluftee, an Anglo-settler corruption of the Cherokee word Egwanulti, which, means “by the river.”
The Newfound Gap Road Byway corridor, about 31 miles in length, lies wholly within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
