| no partners | | Headed up to Sedona to meet my uncle who is visiting from out of town. Decided to kill some time by going to a hilltop ruin I have not visited in over 15 years. I came across this place from a local dog trainer whom I used to work with occasionally. Actually, I was the agitator (Dog Chew Toy ) for schutzen training. I mentioned I planned on hiking in the area as we got done early and that I enjoyed visiting ruins and dwellings. He said "Head up the road. Drive to the end. Hike up the abandoned jeep trail for 10 minutes and hike straight up to the top of the peak." So I did and the top was covered with stacked rock walls. The pictures don't do justice, but there is an inner rectangle was approx 40x60 with an overlap entrance. There appears to have been a larger outer wall that runs around the entire top of this peak. Enclosing several hundred feet. I have visited in the past and seen sherds on the south side by the entrance to the inner wall, but saw no sherds today. I think midden was probably over in this area. Visiting on a rainy day I saw more sherds in this area and I believe they are washing downslope due to the steepness. I also believe it has been visited frequently. There is a small circular enclosure of unknown origin by the innerwall that contained a shell. The shell was there when I first visited and still was there this time. I explored up to where the jeep trail ended along with visiting the ruins. I wish I had brought my binoculars as I was told there are other similar ruins in the area. I did however bring my camera and it was nice to bring back some memories of this special place. I did not have a camera on any of the previous visits. May do some future explorations in the area. |
