We decided to try a different route today to see some new trails we haven't climbed before. We took the Slippery Brook Trail up, which avoids the tough climb/scramble up the South Baldface ledges. It was a nice trail with quite a bit of water along the way. It was a pretty steady, gradual climb with spurts of elevation jaunts. Until we reached about a mile before the intersection, then it climbed straight up (oh yeah! :D ) This intersects the Baldface Knob Trail which takes you an alternate route to S. Baldface. This portion was really great too, as it provides fabulous views and the typical above tree-line granite & cairn trail that is common in the Whites. From the summit of S. Baldface, I was getting a little worried about what looked to be approaching rain from more than one direction. The next few miles of the hike is all exposed, and it was a bit windy. Was debating whether to hoof it down S. Baldface or go back the way we came to get below tree-line in case it started storming, but I just have a hard time bailing on a hike I started out to do. So I told Tug we had to haul buns to get through the exposed portion of the hike. Once we got to the col, I realized that it probably wasn't going to rain on us, but Tug kept up the insane pace anyway and I just tried to keep up with him. :)

We had the ENTIRE trail the entire time to ourselves, and each of the summits as well until on our way down the Bicknell Ridge Trail, we saw 3 backpackers slowly making their way down the steep granite ledges. Tugger was flying down them as if they were a grass field! The Bicknell Ridge Trail proved to be another good choice for some new scenery. We got to see a whole different view of the S. Baldface ledges that we usually climb, as well as Charles Ravine a lot of the way down, it was beautiful! The Baldface Circle trail is in the woods for more of the time. Typically I would've been happier getting in the woods with possible approaching storms, but I had the confidence that they wouldn't come. Luckily I was right and we never got rained on.
