The forecast called for rain so we opted for this relatively easygoing old railroad grade along Lake Crescent. We hiked the official trail portion of the old railroad, though it continues to the west as part of the larger Olympic Discovery Trail, but we lost interest once it turned into a paved path.

For a holiday weekend in a National Park we were pleasantly surprised with the lack of other hikers, and mostly enjoyed the shoreline of the lake to ourselves. The rain finally started shortly after we began the return trip, but it only lasted for about half an hour, so we didn't even get to the point of complaining about it!
