Took 4 months but finally got in the first hike of the year. This hike was a good reminder of how out of shape I am in but only way to fix that and that's to get out and hike. Trail was in good condition. Maybe 10 cars in the lot when we arrived around 9:30 and maybe 25 when we left a little over 3 hours later. No views of Rainier from Debbie's View today but still could see a ways out into the distance. Trail is in good shape. Saw roughly 20+ people during our 3 hours out on the trail and most were masked up. Most dogs we saw were leashed up as well. A good workout to shake off the rust from a long hiking layoff.

Beautiful January day for a hike. Mostly sunny. A little cold but hiking warms you up. Did the short interpretive loop trail at the beginning before following the normal loop clockwise. Most junctions are signed, but not all so we had one wrong turn but quickly realized our mistake. Good views of Mt. Rainier from Debbie's View although it was a little hazy and cloudy. Might be better to do this loop counter clockwise so you can get the views in the late afternoon sun which would be better for pictures. No snow at the start and then a dusting as we got higher. Pretty much snow covered from Debbie's View area on. No views at the summit (too bad you can't climb the microwave towers for really nice 360 degree views) but snow covered trees, it was like walking in a winter wonderland. Great winter hike in Seattle. Pizza and beer afterwards was just the icing on the cake!
