| partners | | On the east coast for 3 weeks so we hiked with one of Kathy’s friend Annette and dog Lola driving up into the White Mountains in New Hampshire near Franconia Notch. Starting at Lafayette Campground trailhead along the Pemigewasset River for a few miles of hiking before turning up the Basin Cascades Trail. This section was really cool with lots of cascades as the name suggests for another few miles up to the junction with the Appalachian Trail.
Followed the AT for another 2 miles or so to Lonesome Lake where we took a break and briefly checked out the Lonesome Lake AT Hut. After the break we hiked around the lake enjoying the wooden plank trail and views of the surrounding White Mountain ridges most of which about 4 to 5 feet in elevation. If we had more time would have been nice to do a peak or two but this was good alternative.
We took the actual Lonesome Lake Trail back down to Lafayette trailhead completing the loop. After the hike we stopped by the Woodstock Inn Brewery for some lunch a brews. Nice way to end the hike! |
