Stroll with dogs and my sister. Went with harnesses, which was a mistake, as I had the bigger one. Drove down to Buffalo Crossing, but didn't know the bridge was out - parked right at the 24/25 junction and just walked across the temporary bridge (closed to vehicular traffic until some time next year).

Went about 3/4 mile down the trail along the creek. OK for a little bit, then quite rocky (which presents more of a challenge when you have an eager dog pulling you). Decided to turn back up and head back up through the vacant campground, which was more pleasant (probably would've headed a bit further downstream had I realized how close we were to the W Fork confluence). At the north end of the campground, headed up a path that went 100 yards or so before petering out (although the hound dogs were convinced it kept going).

Used the old bridge to get back across. Nice area, not too many people around considering which weekend it was.

Spent a long weekend in the White Mountains. It's been a few years since I really spent a bunch of time exploring. I found some of my old favorites and a few new spots too. I should figure out a way to spend more time out here. It only took me 3.5 hours to drive home on Labor Day so the distance really isn't that bad!

We hiked the section from Diamond Rock campground up to Three Forks.
For the first mile or so there is a fisherman's trail along the creek, after that there is little to no sign of travel along this creek.
The walking is generally easy with periodic creek-crossings. This area is really beautiful and seldom seen by bipeds - go check it out!

I did this hike with a couple of great friends. We parked one car at Three Forks and drove down to Diamond Rock Campground to start the hike. I read that it was 5 miles but it seemed longer. The trail comes and goes. The bushes are thick in places and you have to rock hop now and then. There are plenty of places to get wet but nothing big enough to jump in or swim. I think we only had to cross 3or4 times. I did slip but only got wet to the bottom of my shorts. Shorts might not be the best choice as I did get some scratches in the thick stuff. We saw a few people in the campground but that was it. They have about 10 camp spots and there were a few of them open. I only saw one outhouse and that was in the middle by the camp host. This was a nice adventure and some awesome country.

A couple of friends and I took this hike but we started on the upper end at Three Forks. We only went about three miles down and then turned around and hiked back out.(6miles total)I think we will do it again in the fall and drop a car off at the campground so will have a ride back. There is not much of a trail so we just made sure to follow the river. This is beautiful country although I think the west fork last month had a little more greenery. The east fork did seem to have more of a wild feel to it.I was very excited to see Bighorn Sheep in the wild for the first time.We also saw an Elk climb the side of a mountain I never thought one could climb.
Great friends, the great outdoors and a safe trip. What more could you ask for?

Outstanding weekend in the White Mountains. Camped below Buffalo Crossing, right on the river.
