It was quite a slippery experience as a big part of this hike is hiking on big granite boulders/slabs. Today was really nice, albeit humid. I love it because here I KNOW when I'm working hard, I actually sweat like mad with the humidity!
We spotted lots of bear scat, and spoke to a couple people who claimed bear sightings there recently, but we never saw a bear. Once on South Moat, the views were stunning. We continued on to Middle Moat, as I decided we were going to traverse & then turn around at North Moat to come back. From Middle to North, we were back in tree line for a lot of the way, and it was definitely the path less traveled! We saw no one the entire route from South to North. I was ready for Halloween though with all the cobwebs I'd collected along the way - sheesh!
As is typical with most Whites hikes, the terrain is steep and rocky. I can never seem to hike much more than 2 mph around here. The views are SOOOOOO amazingly worth it though, I just can't get enough of the panoramic scenes! |
