Hiked out the Eagle Creek Riverside Camp and back. Not the most scenic trail, but it's nice for a quick getaway into the wilderness. Only encountered one other person very early on in the hike.

First real backpacking trip of the year. Had the whole trail to myself (which is pretty typical since this trail is mostly forgotten). Nice weather- Highs in the 60s and lows in the upper 30s, started out cloudy on day 1, but was nice and sunny by the time I reached the truck on day #2. Lots of firsts for this hike- first time sleeping outside in a quilt, first time ever setting up a tarp shelter, and first full overnight with a frameless pack and no hipbelt. Also my lowest base pack weight at just about 11 pounds, with total pack weight w/ food and water of about 15lbs.

Intended on making it all the way to the Eagle Creek Ford before turning around and setting up camp, but turned back in essentially the same area I stopped when I first hiked this trail over the summer. The trail just doesn't see much use and I got tired of stepping over dead fall and didn't want to push through the dead thorn bushes that were beginning to encroach on the trail, so I turned around. I also encountered a couple of snow patches near my turnaround point, but nothing too bad.

Attempted to follow the Eagle Creek Trail #501 out to the Eagle Creek Ford and back, but only made it part way. While the trail tread is easy enough to follow, it is severely overgrown in several places by overzealous berry bushes that make for very slow going. This is probably a hike best saved for the winter months when the upper elevation hikes are snowed in and the berry bushes die back a bit. Overall a nice stroll through a heavily shaded forest, but nothing else too noteworthy.
