Big Morongo Canyon was an area I heard about and decided to check it out. Wanted to do Morongo Canyon Trail but the company I was with was not up to longer hikes, will have to do it another day. The trails in Big Morongo Canyon are more of what I call nature trails but worth checking out if your in the area and want to just get in a few miles in a very scenic area. Spring time after the winter rains would be the best time. Morongo Canyon is just south of San Gorgonio 11500 feet and east of San Jacinto 10500 feet. These two towering peaks are separated by only 20 miles with Interstate 10 traveling between them at about 1000 feet. Magnificent to see on a clear day. Many of the trails in the preserve are wooden walkways but there are some that are dirt but fairly well maintained. |
