This hike went to Bull Mountain (elevation of 9,934 feet and prominence of 3,734 feet), the highpoint of Box Elder County in NW Utah. I am not sure how Bull Mountain got its name, but they say that the county was named for a Mormon gynecologist.

I started the hike from the Clear Creek Campground. The last few miles to the trailhead were on a well graded dirt road that virtually any vehicle could drive on. I crossed a creek just before I parked, but the creek was only an inch or 2 deep. Amazingly, google maps knows how to get to the TH.

I'd say that about 60% of the hike was on a trail, and the rest was off-trail through open country. The trail was easy to follow, although it was a tad overgrown in a few places. The off-trail portion wasn't really brushy, but if you weren't careful you'd find yourself going through some sagebrush that would grab at your feet.

There is a lot of sun exposure on this hike, and to me it would be better in the fall when the weather is cooler. It was a warm ascent in full sun in the morning, but there was lots of cloud cover once I got close to the summit.

There were quite a few wildflowers once I gained a bit of elevation -- lots of lupine and a good bit of Indian Paintbrush.
