Monday/Tuesday storm dumps 2.5' of new snow, Wednesday forecast is clear, calm and cold - hello PTO! Skied Kirkwood until the powder was tracked out, then snowshoed from Kirkwood Meadow over to Caples Lake and back.

There are lots of places in the Sierra Nevadas named "Emigrant", this area has an Emigrant Lake, an Emigrant Valley and an Emigrant Pass where according to a historical marker emigrant wagons reached 9400' elevation, the highest point anywhere in the US.

Did a big CCW starting/ending at the Caples Lake dam and traversing across the Kirkwood ski resort with about 5 miles off-trail up to Thimble Peak and back down to gorgeous Emigrant Lake. Wildflowers, melting snowfields and running water everywhere.
