Stopped and had a nice hike to Teutonia Peak on the way back to Vegas from Southern California. I really like the Mojave National Preserve.

Lots of Joshua trees, historic mining features, and cool views from the top. Started getting some unwanted attention from some bees though, so we didn't stick around for too long :)

A stop for an easy hike on the way home from the Kelso Dunes (and breakfast pie at the Kelso Depot :D).

This hike is always a worth-while stop, with surreal granitic outcroppings and a dense "forest" of incredible Joshua trees. Views of the Cima Dome and all the amazing mountain ranges in the Mojave Preserve also make the easy hike worth the effort. On this day, air quality was pretty poor, though, and we couldn't see very far.

Poked around the mine area for a while on the way up and found a fat gopher snake hiding out in the relative safety of a fenced-off pit. Also spotted a tarantula booking it across the desert.
Nice way to end a relaxing weekend.
