This hike is always a worth-while stop, with surreal granitic outcroppings and a dense "forest" of incredible Joshua trees. Views of the Cima Dome and all the amazing mountain ranges in the Mojave Preserve also make the easy hike worth the effort. On this day, air quality was pretty poor, though, and we couldn't see very far.
Poked around the mine area for a while on the way up and found a fat gopher snake hiding out in the relative safety of a fenced-off pit. Also spotted a tarantula booking it across the desert.
Nice way to end a relaxing weekend. |
