| no partners | | I've been told, and I have read, that this trail has to be longer than the rumored 5 miles. Well, it is. Its about 5.5 miles total. I think it is deceptively longer than it is due to it being about 1100 feet elevation difference between lowest and highest point, but the actual elevation gain is over 1700 feet.
Hiking downhill to the trailhead you climb 600 feet in the process.
We stayed the first night at the campground not far from the Trailhead.
Nice campground.
If the water at Courtright Reservoir wasn't so low, I imagine it would have been a bit nicer.
This was my 13yr old daughters first ever backpacking experience and I was a bit concerned that it may take longer than expected to get to Cliff Lake.
She sure showed me!
I could barely keep up.
We got on the trail late Thursday morning and took our time getting to the camp. At about 5.1 miles, the trail opens up to a very large flat spot near the lake. Although its officially 'on the trail', it became our spot. It was a great spot for our small group.
We sat around for the remainder of the day before calling it a night.
The next day we spent much time fishing at the lake near our campsite.
The fishing was pretty good.
3 were caught and released, whereas 8 others weren't so lucky.
The weather could not have been better. We probably had lows in the 50's and highs in the upper 70's.
Between all the members of our group, we saw 2 mosquitos total from Thursday night until we departed on Sunday.
I would definitely come back to this little jewel. |
