| no partners | | Weekend of camping hiking with the family. Camped in Medano Creek Rd. A little challenging as no spots available first night we camped in parking space for camp site after talking to the tent campers. Our favorite spot site #2 opened up surprisingly Saturday morning. In fact almost every site emptied? Only 1-2 campsites used during the rest of our trip. Saturday we hiked Medano back roads dunes checked out old homestead at first water crossing and bushwhacked to Dunes. Found a shady spot to wade while kids swam. Hiked out on trail back to road and walked it back to camp. Hikes Sunday opposite direction stopped at 5th crossing. Road is closed to vehicle traffic after 4th crossing. Be nice if there was sign or cones pretty hard to turn around as I found out Friday. Probably should have backed up and done creek crossing backward in hindsight. Anyway, saw 6 long horn sheep at 4th crossing. Played card games roasted marshmallows etc. at night. Super windy Saturday night was surprised to see only a couple stakes out of the awning. Kids said it was a wild ride in the RTT. First camp trip of the year forgot telescoping ladder. Truck steps worked first night, but once 270 awning deployed kids had to use roof hatch to get into tent. Whoops! I’ll remember it next time. Still trying to get Yertle dialed in. Majority of planned trips will be In Frontier which is more comfortable for long trips.
Medano was in much better shape than previous years and would have been fine in the Frontier. Also state parks pass attached to Frontier registration. RTT AND 270 awning transfers back and forth from the trucks from garage storage pretty easily. |

| no partners | | | Jen and I went down to Great Sand Dune since it had been on our to-do list for a while and now that she's job hunting we don't know what the future holds for us. We spent the night in Alamosa and explored a bit on Saturday. On Sunday we actually crossed Medano Creek and climbed some dunes, though we really didn't feel like battling snow and wind to reach the top of the High Dune. Headed back to Junction after our hike. |
