The falls are created by many natural springs on the hill that release into the Sacramento River creating several mossy falls on the side of the river. This is unlike most waterfalls and certainly worth a visit, especially for people who enjoy photography. Unfortunately, the only way to access these falls is by walking along railroad tracks that are owned and still used by Union Pacific Railroad. It is illegal to trespass along the tracks, but hundreds of people do it every month. This occasionally results in injuries or death. There is plenty of room to safely walk along the tracks, but it is dangerous for people who decide to walk on the tracks rather than walk on the sharp and loose surrounding stones. No one will give you trouble if you park legally and hike carefully, put it is understandably a point of conflict since this is an easy "Instagram hike" and many people are not careful or do not realize trains still use these tracks. I will add more information in the description, but there are plans to hopefully create an alternate route that will be legal and much safer. There is no ETA on when/if these plans will be approved. |
