With this heat wave I figured it wouldn't be too cold at night over there. Wrong! I didn't take into consideration the 2500 foot elevation (making it like Tucson). I didn't have a warm enough bag for the 33 degree overnight low, so little sleep was had. What was so weird is that this was like the coldest spot in the whole area. I kept checking Weather Underground during the night for temperature reports and with the exception of nearby Shelter Valley, all other places were in the high 40s to low 50s! Even Julian up on the mountain was around 55 degrees. Ah, the joys of micro climates.
I had planned on staying a second night, as my friend was going to do some night photography up at the Marshal South home site on Ghost Mountain (Yaquitepec), but decided I didn't want to freeze again and left Sunday. Drove to Gila Bend and spent the night there, finishing the drive home Monday morning. |
