| no partners | | This is a really straight forward hike up a fire road from Gaviota State Park into Los Padres National Forest. Its about 20 minutes west of Santa Barbara, just past the rest stop. Basically, when the 101 turns North and leaves the coast, this is the peak it is bending around. It costs 2 dollars to park.
The hike starts out climbing, and mostly keeps the same elevation profile the whole way up. Half a mile into the hike, there is an unmarked path headed toward the hot springs. I took this path on the way up, which continues past the hot springs back to the road. There were a couple of bathers.
The rest of the way up was just a steady trudge up the mountain, on a road passable by a civic. Really beautiful santa barbara coastal-springtime views the whole way. There aren't many signs, but its never very hard to figure out.
The peak has a summit log and a benchmark.
At the peak, the trail actually continues and you can take another way down (Trespass trail). Its longer, but less steep. I decided against it this time, and returned the way I came. |
