Pretty quickly, we discovered we needed to be more prepared for climbing than we were to continue up the main canyon. So, instead, we selected a very steep side canyon to scramble up. This lead to some nice views back down toward the Mesquite Sand Dunes. Progress was very slow with lots of rotten rock that crumbled in your hand. We could have continued to who knows where, but set a turn around time to make it to Badwater for a ranger hike and history talk.
On the way out, we encountered a group carrying little other than crash pads. Sounded like they were going to try their hand at some of the climbs in the canyon. |
