A workout hike. Seemed harder than it did yesterday. I met two local women about my age. After some chatting, it turned out I had met one of them before, when I was driving the bus for AzRA back in 2019. She remembered we stopped in Peach Springs after driving up Diamond Creek Road, and had a picnic in the park there (standard practice for motor raft trips). We fed a stray dog, and we gave the leftover lunch to a couple of hippie hitchhikers. I remember it well.

A quick exercise hike. I didn't start until 8:30, so I did see quite a few people along the trail, at least 20 or so.

I took my better camera this time, hoping to see the chukars again, but I had forgotten to put the SD card back into it! It holds only a few photos without the card. Anyway, I didn't see any chukars. I found out where the petroglyphs are, but didn't try to see them.

This is one hike I will do again. It's very close to where I'm living, and seems to be in use as the local workout trail. For the most part I don't want to do very many repeats of hikes here, because I want to see as much as I can, especially before the heat drives me north (or to the mountains).

The steep part isn't long, and gets you energized, and then, (surprise!) you come over a pass and see Hidden Valley spread out before you. It's a pretty neat feature. I went only as far as the next pass at the end of the valley. I will likely go further next time if it's not too hot.

I took only a small point-and-shoot camera, so I didn't try to get photos of the chukars, which are quail-like birds, but are larger than quail. Incidentally, chukars have naturalized in many places in the US, but they are native to the Middle East and southern Asia. Next time I'll take the Nikon, and also get there at first light.
