A challenging, scenic route through 4 state parks (Kershaw-Ryan, Cathedral Gorge, Spring Valley and Echo Canyon) if you choose the 100-mi option. Non-competitive ride - not timed and with no official start time, just start windows. Very well organized and supported, with a good variety of participants. Included dutch oven dinner after the ride!
I elected for the 60-mile route, which turned out to be a good choice on this day. Start time (~8am) was 30 degrees! Most biking shoes aren't exactly designed for warmth, so my feet were just leaden weights attached to my legs. Fortunately, they were clipped to my pedals, so couldn't fall off!
After a few miles, the route emerged into the sun and more pleasant riding conditions, although a strong cold wind began to blow from the north soon thereafter. We all fought the wind for the uphill ride out, then bombed downhill with a strong tailwind for the return.
Would certainly do this ride again, but would have to think about it long and hard in similar weather conditions. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Isolated Some nice color remains in the canyons here and there. |
