| no partners | | We did the McCallum Trail and then Moon Country Trail at the Coachella Valley Preserve. Definitely reminded us of our time living and hiking in Arizona. The McCallum Trail starts off at the visitor center and after you get to McCallum grove and the pond, you can hook up with the Moon Country trail. The last part of the trail simply follows the wash through a canyon which gradually gets narrower. There is no official end so go as far as you like. After 6 years in the Pacific Northwest and seeing as how we got a late morning start around 10:30AM we didn't push too far into canyon. Some cool formations and had it been cooler we would have probably hiked further but no reason to risk heat stroke on our last day in the desert. Very little shade on this hike so make sure you are prepared. On the plus side we saw only 3 people once we passed the pond -- so we had some nice quiet time on the trail. |
