| no partners | | I hadn't hiked back to back days in quite a while so after hiking the Syncline Loop yesterday, so I decided to take it easy on this shorter and easier trail before heading back to Moab and then south.
The park steers you to hike this trail counterclockwise by not signing the clockwise route from the trailhead, and it was probably better that way. I hit the trailhead just after sunrise and was in the shade most of the time after descending off the neck down the old two track bed the trail follows in that section.
I only attempted to access the first (unnamed) spring of the three the trail passes. The trail passes Neck and Cabin Springs a bit downstream from the sources, and heavy vegetation outweighed my curiosity. Remains of several watering troughs and an old corral from the pioneer days can be seen along the trail, which offers great views of the head of Taylor Canyon as you make your way back.
A short, steep climb brings you back to the mesa top for an easy walk mostly across slick rock back to the trailhead. While the trail showed somewhat heavy usage, with an early start I had it all to myself until I reached the overlook just south of the trailhead parking lot. |
