Pismo Dunes are for dune buggies, so if you dont have one forget this place or you will be run over. The town is a redneck town and the camping there stinks, but if you go north a little there is a campsite there that is passiable and very close to the beach. Coin showers so bring money. The wind can be so strong you can end up with hypothermia so even in may bring heavy coats. the beach is somewhat flat in this area, but very beautiful. I just loved the dead trees near the campsites, but dead trees tells me one thing, a serious flood from a wave came in and drown out the campsite, most likely after an earthquake, so that isnt comfort to my ears knowing that while I sleep. But anyways to hike this beach area, you must camp there, or forced to deal with the redneck dung buggy people at the lower end of the beach. to be honest, I would never go back there, it is not my cup of tea.
