I spent part of Super Bowl Sunday bagging a few peaks in the Mojave Desert:
1) Quartzite Mountain (elevation of 4,532' and prominence of 1,292')
2) Ord Mountain (elevation of 6,309' and prominence of 3,249')
3) Rodman Mountains Highpoint (elevation of 6,010' and prominence of 2,010')
4) Nellie Bly Benchmark (elevation of 5,878' and prominence of 38')
6) Rodman Mountains Wilderness Highpoint (elevation of 5,240' and prominence of 39')

Quartzite Mountain
Quartzite Mountain is just north of Victorville. This was a drive-up to the summit, which has an antenna farm atop it. There were some nice views up there so I was glad to have driven up. You'd need a high clearance 4WD vehicle to drive up the spur road to the summit.

Ord Mountain
With a name like that I just had to hike to this peak. I drove south from I-40 on good dirt roads until I got to a powerline road, where you'd need to park without a high clearance 4WD vehicle. I drove on the road and parked a short distance before a locked gate, and hiked on the road the rest of the way to the summit. The first couple of the miles of the hike were steep, and then it leveled off. There is not much vegetation in this area, but there were some nice colors and nice views along the way and at the summit. I enjoyed the hike, even though it is a road walk to a summit with an antenna farm on it.

Rodman Mountains HP/Nellie Bly Benchmark
This was another drive-up to the summit. Roads were good until getting to a spur road for the summit, which required high clearance 4WD. I made the short walk to the highpoint, which required an easy scramble at the end. The Nellie Bly BM wasn't far away, so I went cross-country over to it, and then retraced my route back to my truck.

Rodman Mountains Wilderness HP
After driving back to Camp Rock Road from the spur road to the Rodman Mountains HP, I drove a short distance, parked, and made the short hike to the Rodman Wilderness HP. This hike does not add much to the experience, but it was easy to dd so I figured that I would hike it since I was in the area.

Synopsis
This was an enjoyable day of hiking in the Ord Mountains and Rodman Mountains. I was out there for probably 8 hours and never saw anyone while hiking, and never saw anyone while driving on the roads. It was much different than hiking in Orange County the day before.

Distance and elevation gain for the 4 hikes is below. Stats above are the sum of these.

1) Quartzite Mountain: 0.68 miles with 199 feet of AEG
2) Ord Mountain: 5.65 miles with 1,819 feet of AEG
3) Rodman Mountains HP/Nellie Bly BM: 1.65 miles with 411 feet of AEG
4) Rodman Mountains Wilderness HP: 0.64 miles with 197 feet of AEG
