We went up the west side past the dam and this portion of the trail was very rocky and uninspiring. But that changed once we got to Greenstone Lake when the hike became a series of connecting the lakes. Steelhead Lake, Shamrock Lake, Lake Helen, Odell Lake, Hummingbird Lake and back to Saddlebag Lake. The trail got very rocky from Steelhead Lake to Odell Lake which made for slow going. The trail also became a little faint above Lake Helen and we were tempted to cut across the south side of the lake but followed the cairns and looped around the northern end. We saw quite a few people on this hike as it is a popular loop hike. Once we got back to Saddlebag Lake, our feet were sore from the rocks so we took the water taxi back to the boat ramp. Actually, I'd recommend utilizing the water taxi and starting the loop hike from the north end of Saddlebag Lake as that is where the fun really starts. The actual walking hike came in at 6.0 miles in 3 1/4 hours with 760 feet of AEG. |
